A customer looked out in distress at his shiny new air conditioning unit. Mechanical Extremes had installed it in the fall, and now, this!
The first real blast of winter had caked the unit with ice and capped it with snow. The customer thought about the investment he had made and said to himself, “I should have covered it.” Had it suffered irreparable harm?
He called Mechanical Extremes and talked with owner Harold Wilkes. Harold’s answer? “It’s best to cover the unit to protect it from ice falling from the roof or tree limbs. Leaves will also find their way into the system and may block drainage ports.” But did leaving the unit exposed cause an immediate problem? Harold says “no, unless a tree branch or a large hunk of ice caused visible damage.”
Covers in stores aren’t always a good fit. Mechanical Extremes stocks them, if you need one for your unit.
